Museu Coleção Berardo – modern art in Lisbon
In the heart of Belém there is the Museum Coleção Berardo. Between many famous tourist spots in the region, such as the Jeronimos Monastery and the Monument of the Discoveries, the museum ends up going unnoticed by some unaware tourists. What is unfortunate in view of the vast collection of modern and contemporary art displayed there. More than 800 pieces of national and international artists that portray different contexts and artistic expressions of the last century.
For lovers of this kind of art this tour is a must easily compared to other wellknown international museums. The space brings works by world recognized artists suc as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol, Paula Rego, among others.
However, those who do not really appreciate art or those who prefer a more conservative approach may be confused by some very modern facilities. Anyway, admission is free and definitely worth checking out to take your own conclusion.
Since 2007, when it opened, the space was quite dynamized. Besides the permanent exhibition, there is always some temporary collection on display or courses and workshops. For those who can not visit the museum it is possible to appreciate some of the art on Google Art Project. Regarding its structures, the museum offers parking (this one paid), garden, cloakroom, toilet, baby changing stations, accessibility for persons with reduced mobility and a B-Store, the museum shop.
Near this museum we also recommend for you to visit the Jerónimos Monastery, the Monumentos of Discoveries (Padrão dos Descobrimentos), the Tower of Belém, The National Coach Museum and then enjoy a delicious Pastel de Belém.
