7 Billion Others – a video exhibition in the Museum of Electricity
7 billion others is the new temporary exhibition of the Museum of Electricity. The photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand project aims to create a portrait of humanity, through testimonies of 6,000 people from 84 countries. The statements given are about universal themes such as forgiveness, love, happiness, the meaning of life, the family, among others. Through 45 pre-defined questions the creator of the project left registered who these people are, what they dream, think and what they have to tell the world.
The exhibition shows in a very tangible way the 7 billion inhabitants of this planet are actually more alike than they realize, most with the same fears, desires, wishes and questions. Although some points are different, the idea is to show more that unites us than what separates us.
For this exhibition in Lisbon, was also recorded a special series called Portuguese. This exhibition brings testimonies from locals and their perceptions of what is to be Portuguese, but also from foreigners living in Portugal.
The videos that make up the exhibition can be seen on the project website, but it is woth the visit at the facilities that of the Museum of Electricity. The space was set up with some walls and benches made from cork and videos are displayed on large screens. In addition there is an on-site studio, where visitors are invited to record their own message, actively taking part in this record of humanity. The entrance to the exhibition costs € 2 which fully reverts to the Turma do Bem, which is a OSCIP (Civil Society Organization of Public Interest) Brazilian, who works in the area of oral health. Arrived in Portugal in 2010 at the initiative of EDP Foundation.
